Tithe Applotment 1823 - 1838

The Composition Act of 1823 stated that tithes that were due to the Established Church (Church of Ireland), which, until the introduction of the Act had been payable in kind, should now be paid in money.  To determine the amount paid by each landholder, valuation surveys were carried throughout Ireland over a 15 year period until the abolition of the Tithes in 1838.  PRONI Reference - FIN/5A
