Lynastown Burial Ground, Moyraverty, Portadown, Co. Armagh

The Religious Society of Friends of Ireland - Memorial Wall.

"When one of the founding members of Quaker group, William Lynas died in 1658, Quaker principles would not allow for a Priest to conduct a burial service in the local Graveyard. Lynas therefore was buried in his own land in Moyraverty. This small plot of land became known as Lynastown and was used for the burial of 200 Quakers until 1967. Many of the early Quaker families were loosely associated with the linen industry and their influence, particularly during the 18th century, was out of proportion to their small numbers."
