"John Bradshaw left County Armagh with more Hampton cousins sailing on 30 September 1865 from London on the "Mermaid" arriving in Canterbury, New Zealand on 1 January 1866. With the Hamptons, John purchased various blocks of land around. Christchurch in the Ellesmere areas before settling on a piece of land in the Ellesmere area where he built his home for his young bride Ann Eliza Stothers daughter of Moses Stothers and Letitia Devlin from County Armagh. He sold this land and moved his young Family to Greymouth on the West Coast. After Johns' death Ann Eliza moved north with her daughter, Mary."
